Benefits

The eFellows program will provide postdoctoral researchers with a salary of $75,000 per year, for two years. Upon selection, ASEE will issue subawards to host institutions, to cover salary, benefits and up to $3,000 for travel expenses per fellow.

Fringe benefits for the fellow are requested at the host institution’s applicable rate for postdoctoral researchers, capped at the rate of 26%.

Indirect Costs/Facilities and Administrative costs are charged as a percentage of the modified total direct costs of the host institution, capped at a rate of 35% with the caveat* below.

*ASEE is seeking clarity about the recent guidance for indirect rates and its impact on new sub-awards for the fellowships. If we receive clarity, we'll update this language and let sub-awardees know. In the meantime, we intend to initiate awards under this program at the previously approved maximum Indirect Rate of 35%. We may need to adjust this to 15% if instructed by DGA to do so.

ASEE has developed an
experiential learning curriculum exclusively for the eFellows that is designed to prepare participants for a future research career.

The curriculum is designed for a cohort model. The cohort model serves to provide the fellows with a learning community, peer mentoring, and a nurturing environment with “supportive colleagues.” Each cohort member will bring a shared pre-cohort experience comprised of the development of their application in collaboration with an aspirational postdoc faculty advisor.

Programming for fellows – as provided by ASEE with funding from NSF – includes: three immersive meeting experiences with specific learning outcome goals, a 10-part professional development webinar series with special guest speakers from engineering industry and academia, and a research-informed, culturally responsive mentoring program.
